In the Krauthammer piece I discussed in the previous post, one of the linkages he makes between Iran and Syria is the Alawite identity of the Syrian regime and Alawi connections to Shiite Islam, the predominant sect of Iran. As is the case with many cases Krauthammer offers as evidence of his argument, this one lacks context and definition, which, when properly applied, weakens the case greatly.
And once again a Krauthammer argument can be brought into serious question with simple Google searches. Here's one of many sources of information on the Alawites.
